Nasarawa Governor Launches 100 Electric Vehicles to Ease Transport Crisis

NASARAWA, Nigeria – The Nasarawa state Governor, Abdullahi Sule has launched a fleet of 100 electric vehicles and tricycles to ease transport hardship and reduce economic strain on residents.

Unveiled in Lafia during the week, the project also includes the establishment of a charging centre at the new State Secretariat, with more stations planned across Akwanga and Keffi. “These vehicles, fully air-conditioned, can run all day on a single charge,” the governor said.

The first batch will be used to transport civil servants and commuters within Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi, creating jobs for beneficiaries while cutting transport costs.

Governor Sule emphasised that the initiative would also support environmental sustainability.

State Commissioner for Environment, Margaret Elayu, praised the project as forward-thinking. “This is not only about mobility. It is about providing relief to households and ensuring our environment is cleaner,” she said.

The project aligns with Nigeria’s wider transition to renewable energy solutions, with experts describing it as one of the most ambitious state-led clean transport initiatives to date.

Residents in Lafia welcomed the launch, noting that soaring fuel prices and poor transport options had left many stranded. “This project shows government is finally thinking ahead,” said civil servant Aliyu Musa.
