The Kano State Government has launched a free oral health outreach programme aimed at expanding access to quality dental care for residents, particularly in underserved communities.

The exercise, which began on Saturday at Kwankwaso General Hospital in Madobi Local Government Area, will run until August 21, with a closing ceremony scheduled for Filin Mushe Primary Healthcare Centre in Gwale.

Speaking at the flag-off, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Shehu Abdullahi, said the campaign reflects the administration’s commitment to improving citizens’ wellbeing.

He noted that more than 1,000 individuals are expected to benefit from the programme, which offers free services including dental checkups, tooth extractions, fillings, scaling and polishing, as well as distribution of mouthwash to encourage good oral hygiene.

“This initiative is part of our broader healthcare reforms designed to ensure equitable access to quality services across all communities,” Dr. Yusuf said.

The Ministry of Health assured residents that similar outreach programmes would continue across Kano, with a focus on preventive healthcare and reducing the burden of oral diseases.
