WAEC Suspends WASSCE Results Over Technical Glitches, Orders Review

ABUJA, Nigeria – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has halted access to the recently released 2025 WASSCE results after detecting technical bugs affecting the accuracy of candidates’ scores.

In a statement issued on Thursday, WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, announced that a comprehensive review of the results is currently underway to address “glitches and bugs” identified during internal checks.

“As part of our quality assurance process, we discovered inconsistencies linked to paper serialization in core subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics,” Adesina said. “This prompted us to initiate an urgent system-wide audit.”

WAEC explained that the serialisation process—an added layer of exam security—uncovered technical anomalies which compromised the integrity of some results. Consequently, the result viewing portal has been temporarily disabled.

Students who had previously accessed their results have been advised to recheck them after 24 hours starting from Thursday, August 7.

“This step is to ensure that every candidate gets a fair, accurate, and validated outcome,” the statement added.

WAEC has not disclosed the number of candidates affected or how long the full review will take. However, the council reassured students, parents, and stakeholders that all corrections will be swiftly implemented.

The announcement comes amidst growing scrutiny of exam bodies and their ability to maintain digital integrity as more systems go online.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s patience,” WAEC added.
