Kano, World Bank Inject ₦24bn to Upgrade PHCs in 44 LGAs

KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government, in partnership with the World Bank under the IMPACT project, has committed over ₦24 billion to upgrade Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across all 44 local government areas.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed this at the official flag-off in Takai LGA on Thursday. He said the investment aims to boost maternal and child healthcare delivery, especially at the grassroots.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf flagged off the construction of staff quarters at the Durbunde PHC to ensure 24-hour services in rural communities.

Yusuf noted that the state now distributes 25,000–30,000 antenatal kits and 6,000 delivery kits monthly, including 500 Caesarean Section kits, all free of charge, added that renovation of 191 PHCs has begun, affirming the administration’s commitment to grassroots healthcare transformation.

The commissioner praised the governor for regularly releasing counterpart funds, which he said has improved immunisation coverage.

At the event, the governor also launched the distribution of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food for children with severe malnutrition, part of a ₦1 billion partnership with UNICEF.
