The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has joined other prominent Nigerians and the global community in mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a disciplined, principled, and patriotic leader.

In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, on Sunday, General Musa expressed his condolences on behalf of the Service Chiefs and personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of the late President Buhari, and all Nigerians over the loss of what he called a “revered elder statesman and gallant senior officer.”

General Musa extolled Buhari’s legacy, noting that his life was defined by discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of the nation.

“President Buhari’s contributions to national development, both as a military officer and civilian leader, have left an indelible mark in our history,” he said. “He was a symbol of dedication to national service who fought tirelessly for the unity and indivisibility of our great country. His leadership, courage, and principles will continue to inspire future generations.”

The CDS also praised Buhari’s incorruptible stance, describing him as a vanguard of prudence whose name is etched in gold.

He added that the former President’s commitment to strict discipline and the rule of law stood out both during his time in uniform and in democratic governance.

“President Buhari’s zero tolerance for indiscipline remains worthy of emulation,” General Musa said.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the former President’s soul and asked Almighty Allah to grant his family and the entire nation the strength to bear the loss.

Buhari died on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness. His body is expected to be flown back to Nigeria for burial.
