Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Thursday launched the Pilot School Feeding Programme at Dan-turai Primary School in Gusau, pledging to tackle the rising number of out-of-school children in the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson Sulaiman Bala Idris, which was made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital.

The programme, according to the governor, is part of his administration’s broader strategy to boost school enrollment and retention while addressing hunger and malnutrition among pupils.

“Our commitment to reform includes initiatives to combat sector decay and foster partnerships, such as with the World Bank through AGILE and with UNICEF,” Lawal said.

He added, “The school feeding program we’re launching today is an emergency response to promote enrollment and retention. FINPACT will sponsor meals for 1,000 pupils across four LGAs, while the International Center for Economic Development will cater to 3,300 pupils in three others.”

The governor urged stakeholders and donors to intensify support. “Together, we can reduce the menace of out-of-school children and make Zamfara a shining example,” he said.
