No fewer than four people have died and over 1,000 houses destroyed following a torrential downpour and hailstorm that hit six communities in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.
The lawmaker representing Kiru Constituency, Usman Tasiu, disclosed this during Wednesday’s plenary of the Kano State House of Assembly, presided over by Speaker Ismail Falgore.
“The sad incident affected six communities—Rahama, Yakko Town, Ungwan Makera, Bargoni, Dansociaya Town, and part of Kiru Town,” Tasiu said. “The heavy windstorm and hailstorm brought destruction to homes, schools, and markets and even knocked down electricity poles.”
He urged the state government to intervene swiftly through the State Emergency Management Agency.
Supporting the motion, Husseini Lawan (Dala Constituency) said, “SEMA must be adequately funded to respond effectively to emergencies like this.”
The House resolved to direct SEMA to provide immediate relief and called on religious leaders to pray for divine protection.
The Assembly also urged better welfare for vigilante groups aiding rural security.
