The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thundery and rainy weather across the country from Monday to Wednesday, urging Nigerians to brace up for possible disruptions.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja predicted thunderstorms (with or without rains) during the early morning hours over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna States in the northern region.

According to the agency, the rest of the region will be sunny with patches of cloud.

“Thunderstorms with rains are expected during the afternoon or evening hours over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna States,” NiMet announced in its weather outlook released in Abuja.

In the central region, NiMet predicted, “Morning thunderstorms with rains are expected over parts of Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory,” while other areas will experience cloud patches and sunshine.

For the southern states, the agency envisaged cloudy skies with prospects of morning rains over Ogun, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, adding, “Thunderstorms with light rains are expected across Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom in the afternoon or evening.”

NiMet cautioned that strong winds may precede the thunderstorms and advised the public to secure loose objects and avoid driving under heavy rainfall.

“Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from sockets and stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches,” the agency warned, urging airline operators to obtain weather reports for safe operations and citizens to stay informed through NiMet’s updates.
