The Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad, has launched the 2025 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) programme to tackle malaria and malnutrition among children under five.
Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, she said, “The state government remains committed to child health. I urge partners to sustain their support.”
The initiative targets over two million children across all 20 LGAs, with house-to-house delivery by trained volunteers.
Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Leprosy (BACATMA), Dr Adamu Umar Sambo, said the programme will “boost immunity, enhance eye health and improve nutrition in vulnerable children.”
He added that 25,000 ad-hoc workers and national monitors from the Malaria Consortium will oversee implementation, ensuring effective coverage throughout the state.
