The Katsina State Government has announced the successful neutralization of 12 armed bandits during a joint security operation in the Kurfi-Safana axis of the state.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, said the operation followed early morning intelligence reports, prompting swift mobilization of security forces to counter the bandits who were threatening the safety of residents in the region.
According to the statement, the armed bandits had earlier attacked Rahamawa village in the Kuraye District of Charanchi Local Government Area at about 5:40am, during which they severely injured a 60-year-old resident, Alhaji Danmalam, and rustled 22 cattle.
Joint patrol teams comprising personnel from the police, army, Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes reportedly tracked the bandits to Dutsen Falale in the Kurfi-Safana enclave, where a fierce gun duel ensued.
“The coordinated operation resulted in the elimination of twelve bandits and the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, several rounds of ammunition, and all twenty-two rustled cattle,” the statement read.
While hailing the operation as a decisive victory, the commissioner confirmed the death of one vigilante member, who was killed in the line of duty. He added that a soldier also sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Tragically, Alhaji Danmalam, who was earlier injured during the attack, succumbed to his injuries at a Primary Healthcare Centre in Charanchi.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, according to the statement, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and prayed for Allah to grant them Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture to protect lives and property across all communities.
