The Kaduna State Government has launched a N33 billion Costed Implementation Plan (CIP) to enhance Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services for persons with disabilities (PWDs), marking the first initiative of its kind in Nigeria.
The three-year plan, unveiled Wednesday at the Sightsavers office in Kaduna, was developed through extensive consultations with PWDs and focuses on five thematic areas, including service delivery barriers and public awareness.
Consultant Dr. Mohammed Liman, who supported the plan, said, “A substantial portion of the N33 billion, about N21 billion, is allocated to infrastructural upgrades, recognizing that physical infrastructure is a major barrier.”
He added, “Another significant barrier is communication. Many healthcare providers lack the training or tools to communicate effectively, especially with people who are deaf or hearing impaired.”
Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Naomi Kukah, described the CIP as “a bold statement of commitment to equity, dignity, and human rights.”
