The Nigerian Defence Headquarters DHQ, said troops of 17 Brigade, Op FASAN YAMA at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kurfi in Katsina State had an encounter with terrorists along Road Kurfi – Batsari at about 5am on 18 June 2025.
The DHQ further said that “during the encounter, the troops swiftly engaged the terrorists, and after a prolonged duel, defeated them, thwarting the attack. The terrorists suffered significant casualties, with 8 killed in action. The troops also recovered 5 AK-47 rifles, 6 AK-47 magazines, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition”.
The director of Defence Media Operations, DDMO, Major General Markus Kangye said on Wednesday, while disclosing the momentous development to Defence correspondents in a statement, “One of our troops was, however, wounded in action and evacuated to 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment. The situation remains calm, while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high”.
“The Defence Headquarters commends the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation”, said he.
Again, the military reassured Nigerians of its continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
