Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has pledged to reposition the state’s health sector into a hub for medical tourism in Nigeria within the next few years.

Buni made the statement on Friday during an exit meeting with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). He was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali.

The governor said the state is making strategic investments in healthcare infrastructure and human resources to meet international standards. “Our goal is to transform Yobe’s health sector to compete with developed countries,” he said.

He assured that all deficiencies identified by the MDCN in the Yobe State University College of Medical Sciences and its Teaching Hospital would be addressed. He also promised continued collaboration with the institutions’ management to implement lasting solutions.

Buni commended the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bukar Jamri, and the leadership of the university and teaching hospital for their efforts in securing accreditation for housemanship training.

In his remarks, MDCN Deputy Registrar, Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakanma, said the Council was impressed with the level of infrastructural development, noting that the institution deserves full accreditation based on the improvements observed.
