The Anambra State Police Command has busted a traffic syndicate and arrested six suspects, including a female, in Isuaniocha community, Awka North Local Government Area.

According to the police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release on Saturday, police operatives attached to the Special Cultism Squad, Obosi Sector, acted on credible information to carry out the exercise in the early hours of Friday.

The police recovered a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be hard drugs and other incriminating substances.

The suspects include Chinyere Onwuka, John Kennedy Onwuka, Chidiebere Onyeze, Echeazu Nonso, Osita Chukwu Chialuka, and Nnebedum Wisdom.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has expressed willingness to step up advocacy against illicit drugs through a Police Campaign against Cultism and other vices.

All the suspects will be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Awka, for further necessary actions.

The police command is determined to address the rise in drug consumption among youths, which is believed to drive most crimes and bad behaviour exhibited by individuals.
