The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Rabi’a Labaran for allegedly killing her co-wife, Zainab Lawal, in Daura Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident occurred late on Friday, behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area, following a violent domestic dispute between the two women who were married to the same man.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, who briefed journalists on the development.
According to the statement, the police received a distress call around 11:00 p.m. on Friday from Nasir Yusuf, the husband of the two women, who reported that he returned home from the market to find his first wife, Zainab Lawal, lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sabon Gari and a team of officers rushed to the scene and immediately took the victim to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Daura for urgent medical attention. However, she was pronounced dead by the attending physician,” the statement said.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the second wife, Rabi’a Labaran, who confessed to committing the crime after an argument between her and the deceased escalated into a violent altercation.
“She admitted to stabbing her co-wife during a heated dispute that turned physical, eventually resulting in the fatal incident,” the statement added.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, has called on residents to avoid violence in domestic settings and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served and maintaining peace and order in the state.
