Tinubu Hails Lamido’s Political Legacy, Reaffirms Respect for Opposition

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Jigawa State Governor and elder statesman, Alhaji Sule Lamido, on the launch of his autobiography, “Being True to Myself”.

Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the book launch in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu praised Lamido’s bold and consistent political career. The President described the book as a significant addition to Nigeria’s political history and democratic conversation.

“This is not merely the unveiling of a book,” Idris said. “It is the celebration of a life defined by courage, consistency, and commitment to democratic ideals. Alhaji Sule Lamido, though a staunch member of the political opposition and often a critic of the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), remains one of the strong pillars of Nigeria’s political evolution.”

President Tinubu also reiterated his belief in political inclusion, stating through Idris that “every citizen, regardless of party affiliation, has a seat at the table of national discourse.”

The Minister commended the decade-long effort behind the book and urged other political figures to document their experiences. The title “aptly reflects the man Sule Lamido and his reputation as a principled and blunt politician and statesman. I will recommend this book to students, scholars, journalists, and fellow politicians, who will find it instructive for many years,” he added.

Idris further highlighted the Tinubu administration’s reform efforts and commitment to national security, emphasizing that “President welcomes constructive criticism at all times, in the spirit of freedom of speech and democratic engagement.”
