The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Halifa Baba-Beru, during a gun battle between his gang and police officers at Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at about 1:00pm, followed a distress call alerting police to an ongoing robbery operation allegedly led by Baba-Beru, a long-wanted criminal figure known for terrorizing residents of the area.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said the suspect and his gang were armed with dangerous weapons and had been attacking innocent civilians before the arrival of the police team.

“Upon arrival at the scene, our officers came under attack from the hoodlums, leading to a fierce gun duel. During the exchange, two of our men — Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu — sustained injuries, while the principal suspect, Halifa Baba-Beru, was seriously wounded,” Haruna said.

All injured individuals were immediately taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where Baba-Beru was confirmed dead while receiving treatment. The two officers were treated and later discharged.

The police command has since launched a full-scale investigation into the incident and intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the gang who fled the scene during the encounter.

SP Haruna praised the bravery of the officers involved, stating that the command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property in Kano State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, called on residents to report any suspicious activity and provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects.

“We will not relent in our duty to ensure justice is served. The support of the public is crucial in our ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” CP Bakori said.
