NEMA, NCC Deepen Collaboration to Boost Emergency Communication

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have reaffirmed their commitment to improving disaster response through enhanced emergency communication systems.

According to a statement released on  Tuesday on NEMA’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the agency’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja to advance ongoing collaboration between the two agencies.

During the visit, Mrs. Umar stressed the need to expand cooperation, especially in deploying early warning systems and strengthening interoperability between the national emergency number and NEMA’s dedicated helpline. She commended NCC’s efforts in activating the national emergency line, describing it as vital to timely disaster response.

In response, Dr. Maida assured NEMA of the NCC’s continued support, emphasizing the importance of public education on the proper use of emergency numbers to ensure effective utilization during crises.

Both agencies agreed to deepen joint efforts in disaster risk reduction and public safety, with plans to improve communication infrastructure for rapid emergency coordination.
