Bokkos Attacks: NEMA Begins Profiling of Displaced Persons in Plateau

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the profiling of displaced persons in camps across Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, following recent violent attacks in the area.

This was disclosed in a statement by the agency on their X account (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday. According to NEMA, the initiative is part of a rapid needs assessment to determine the extent of humanitarian support required for affected residents.

Led by the Head of NEMA’s Jos Operations Office, Mr. Abdulrazaq Adebiyi, the team visited the Cottage Hospital in Bokkos, where 16 injured victims are still receiving treatment. The hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Aring A., said some patients with more serious injuries have been referred to tertiary health facilities.

The team also visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church in Bokkos. The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Andrew Dewan, thanked the agency for its swift intervention, while displaced residents expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the assistance.

In addition to the Bokkos camp, displaced persons in Manguna and Daffo host communities are also being profiled to facilitate further relief distribution.

NEMA said the intervention follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to provide immediate support to victims.
