President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for an initial term of four years.
According to a statement released by the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, The appointment took effect on March 11, 2025.
Dr. Oloriegbe previously represented Kwara Central Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023. He also chaired the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health, playing a key role in legislative health policies.
A medical doctor by training, Oloriegbe earned a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris. He is an active member of professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the International Aids Society (IAS).
