NUC Approves New Varsity to Boost Education, Entrepreneurship in Cross River

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the Cross River State University of Education and Entrepreneurship, making it the 67th state university in Nigeria.

Presenting the recognition letter in Abuja on Tuesday, NUC Executive Secretary Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu described the approval as a “milestone for education and economic growth.”

“This university will not only provide quality education but also equip students with entrepreneurial skills to thrive in today’s economy,” Ribadu stated.

The new institution aims to bridge the gap between education and industry, fostering innovation and job creation in Cross River State. With six universities already operating in the state, the latest addition underscores the government’s commitment to expanding higher education access.

Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu, represented by Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, hailed the approval as “a dream come true.”

“We have worked tirelessly for this day, and with the guidance of the NUC, we are fully prepared to launch this university,” Owan-Enoh said.

He said that the university would tackle unemployment by equipping graduates with practical skills.

The NUC pledged ongoing support to ensure the institution becomes “a beacon of learning, character, and social transformation.”
