President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform initiative.

The appointment, announced on Friday, aims to drive sustainable progress in the livestock sector and bolster national development.

Jega, a former vice chancellor of Bayero University, co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu, leading to key recommendations, including the creation of the Livestock Ministry.

Age 68, Jega is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kano.

His tenure at INEC (2010–2015) was marked by significant electoral reforms.

His new role is expected to reinforce ongoing livestock reforms and sustain the committee’s efforts.
