FRSC Seeks TETFund’s Support to Boost Road Safety Training

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is calling on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to support its training institutions, emphasising the need for improved capacity and professionalism in road safety management.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made the appeal during a meeting with TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Mohammed highlighted FRSC’s struggle to secure funding for its designated training institutions, stressing their crucial role in reducing road crashes.

“We have academic institutions designated in 2023 to be self-funded, but we still cannot access the necessary funding,” Mohammed stated. “This partnership with TETFund can help us provide infrastructure and resources to train our personnel, ultimately reducing road crashes and ensuring safer mobility for Nigerians.”

He reaffirmed FRSC’s ambitious target of cutting road accidents by 50% with zero fatalities, saying technology, research, and continuous training as key strategies.

Responding, Echono expressed TETFund’s willingness to collaborate with FRSC, particularly in awareness campaigns and training programs.

“TETFund is open to partnerships that drive national development,” Echono said. “We recognize FRSC’s digital transformation and its impact in reducing road fatalities. There’s been a notable decline in accident rates, and we’re keen to support research and capacity building to sustain this progress.”

He also encouraged FRSC to leverage TETFund’s resources to reach millions of Nigerian students with road safety awareness programs.
