INEC Denies Voter Registration Date, Urges Public Caution

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted reports claiming that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on May 27, 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, dismissed the claim as false.

“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been drawn to a misleading report making the rounds, that we will resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) on 27th May 2025. The report is untrue,” Oyekanmi stated.

He urged Nigerians to disregard the misinformation, emphasising that the Commission has not set any date for the exercise.

INEC’s clarification comes amid growing public interest in voter registration ahead of upcoming elections. Many citizens have been eager for the CVR process to resume, particularly those who recently turned 18 or lost their PVCs.

“We appeal to the public to disregard the false narrative,” Oyekanmi added, reaffirming INEC’s commitment to transparent electoral processes.

The Commission has yet to announce when the registration will commence, but officials assure the public that an official update will be provided in due course.
