The South West Governors’ Forum is currently holding a meeting at the Lagos House, Ikeja, hosted by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In attendance are Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State. The meeting aims to promote regional cooperation and development, addressing issues affecting the zone and Nigeria as a whole.

Security was a key issue discussed at the meeting, with the governors expressing their readiness to counter any attempts by the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) to enter the region.

To enhance security, the forum agreed to establish a joint surveillance monitoring team. Chairman of the South West Governors Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated that the team will deploy advanced technology, including aerial surveillance systems, to improve security coordination.

The governors also commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which have ensured a stable naira and petrol supply across the country.

They praised the establishment of the South Western Development Commission and agreed to locate its head office in Ibadan, within the Cocoa House of Odua Investment Company Limited.

Additionally, the forum commended Odua Investment Limited’s efforts to reposition itself and promote regional development.

To address food security and inflation, the governors agreed to establish a food inflation joint monitoring team and create food logistics hubs in each state.

These initiatives, according to the governors, aim to curb the influence of middlemen inflating commodity prices and ensure a stable food supply in the region.
