NAFDAC Intensifies Fight Against Counterfeits, Destroys ₦4.7b Worth of Products in Rivers State

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken a bold step in its campaign against counterfeit and expired products, destroying goods worth ₦4.7 billion at the Aluu dumpsite in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The items, which included unregistered cosmetics, substandard vegetable oil without Vitamin A fortification, and two 40-ft containers of unregistered drugs intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service in Edo State, were publicly incinerated in a show of the agency’s commitment to public health.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, on Monday highlighted the agency’s unwavering dedication to protecting Nigerian consumers during the event. She stated, “This destruction exercise demonstrates our steadfast commitment to safeguarding public health. We will not relent until counterfeiters are eliminated from our supply chains.”

NAFDAC further called on stakeholders and the public to play an active role in the fight against counterfeit goods. “We need the support of everyone to combat this menace. Report suspicious activities and ensure compliance with regulatory standards,” the Director-General urged
