The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Baba Kudu Mohammed for allegedly forging a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and an NYSC exemption certificate.
According to a statement sent to Africa Health Report (AHR) by the spokesperson for the commission Demola Bakare on Thursday, Mohammed appeared before Justice A.Y. Shafa at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Nyanya, facing a four-count charge of forgery. The ICPC accused him of using the forged documents to seek employment at the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).
According to the charge sheet, Mohammed was found in possession of a forged NYSC exemption letter bearing identification number NYSC/CMD/LT. No. 201201201 and serial number 15440, allegedly issued by the NYSC Directorate Headquarters which violates Section 368 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 53, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Mohammed pleaded not guilty to all charges. The prosecution, led by Hamza Sani, stated that they were ready to proceed with two witnesses, while the defense counsel, M.E. Abubakar, requested bail, which the prosecution did not oppose.
The court has granted bail under specified conditions while the case has been adjourned to March 3, 2025 for further proceedings.
