The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the death of one person in an accident involving two trucks and motorcycles at Mile 2, inward Cele in Lagos State.
According to the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu on Wednesday, the accident occurred when a truck conveying vehicle engines suffered mechanical error and collided with an incoming articulated truck and two motorcycles.
“Further investigations revealed that the truck conveying quantities of vehicle engines had suffered mechanical error while in motion, leading to a collision with an incoming articulated truck and two motorcycles,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He added that the impact of the collision resulted in the instant loss of life for one of the motorcyclists, while the second motorcyclist escaped unscathed.
The LASEMA response team activated safety measures at the incident scene to forestall more accidents and coordinated the recovery operation.
“We coordinated the recovery operation and activated necessary traffic control measures with diversion of incoming vehicles. LASEMA supervised evacuation of the scattered impediments – the vehicle engines – off the road with heavy-duty equipment,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
The road has since be en cleared for safe vehicular activities.
