Nigeria’s national grid has collapsed for the 11th time this year, leaving millions without electricity.
The an earlier incident had occurred on Tuesday, with power generation plummeting to 0.00MW at some point, before today’s (Thursday) collapse.
As of 11 am on Thursday, the 22 power plants were only able to generate 2,323 megawatts of electricity, significantly below the peak generation of 3,743MW recorded earlier in the day.
The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) confirmed the power outage in a statement to its customers.
“Dear Esteemed Customer, please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 7 November 2024, at 11:29 hrs, affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us,” the company said.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to provide an update on the incident, which has become all too familiar for Nigerians.
With 10 previous grid collapses since January 2024, concerns about the country’s power infrastructure and reliability continue to grow.
Nigerians await restoration of full power supply, hoping for a more stable and efficient electricity grid.
