Over 20,000 participants are expected to converge on Lagos State for the maiden edition of Afropolis 2024, a nine-day international festival celebrating African cultural heritage.

The event, themed “We Need New Myths,” aims to open doors to new possibilities, foster connections that transcend borders, and showcase the incredible potential of the creative industries to drive economic growth and cultural exchange.

According to Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Afropolis Lagos 2024 will project the rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit of Lagos metropolis and Nigeria for nine days.

“Afropolis is not just an event; it’s a celebration of our identity, a showcase of our talents, and a testament to the power of creativity to unite and inspire,” she said.

From October 26th to November 3rd, Lagos will become the epicenter of African creativity, welcoming artists, innovators, and enthusiasts from across the continent and beyond.

The festival will feature a range of programs, including visual art exhibitions, children’s games, music, dance, and more. The Artistic Director of Afropolis, Mr. Qudus Onikeku, emphasized the importance of collaborating with other big cities to make Lagos the creative capital of Africa.

“The programmes we have put together are for international artists. We must close down J Randle to celebrate with visual artists, exhibition, children’s games, musicians, and dancers, among others.”, Onikeku noted.

Afropolis is more than a festival; it’s a platform for African creatives to unite, showcase their talents, exchange ideas, and collaborate on groundbreaking projects.

As Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka noted, “It’s a celebration of Lagos as the world’s largest black cultural melting pot, a city that continues to lead in various creative sectors.”

With Afropolis 2024, Lagos is poised to cement its position as a hub for African creativity and innovation.

The festival is organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in partnership with QDance. For more information on Afropolis 2024, visit their website.
