Nigeria’s Labour Force Lacks Higher Education, Drawback to Economic Competitiveness – Survey

In a recently published Nigeria Labour Force Survey (NLFS) by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), a significant 86% of Nigeria’s workforce, equating to more than 76.6 million individuals, did not possess post-secondary education in 2023.

The absence of advanced education and technical expertise presents a major obstacle to Nigeria’s economic growth and its ability to compete on a global scale.

The report highlighted that just 12.3 million Nigerians in the labor force possess post-secondary qualifications, revealing a significant skills gap in the country’s swiftly evolving global economy.

Experts are expressing worry about Nigeria’s capacity to promote innovation and boost productivity, highlighting the critical need for reforms in education and vocational training to bridge this gap.
