Fake Cowbell Milk Floods Nigerian Markets – NAFDAC Warns of Danger

ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over the circulation of counterfeit 12g sachets of Cowbell “Our Milk” across Nigeria.

In a statement on Friday, NAFDAC explained that the fake product mimics the discontinued packaging of Cowbell “Our Milk,” which Promasidor Nigeria Ltd stopped producing in September 2023. It was replaced by Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness.”

According to the regulator, the counterfeit sachets carry unauthorised use of the Cowbell brand name, NAFDAC registration number and packaging design, despite not being produced by Promasidor.

“The counterfeit products currently in circulation are imitations of the discontinued ‘Our Milk’ packaging and are not manufactured or distributed by Promasidor,” NAFDAC warned.

The agency stressed that consuming the counterfeit product poses severe health risks, including exposure to toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, or diluted ingredients. “Risks include foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, and in severe cases, death,” the statement read. Vulnerable groups such as infants, children, pregnant women and the elderly are particularly at risk.

NAFDAC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, avoid buying the fake sachets, and immediately report suspicious products to its offices nationwide.
