ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH), Enugu, and the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) have entered into a partnership to strengthen specialist services in orthopaedics and plastic surgery.
The agreement, finalised in Enugu and announced on Friday, was convened by NOH Board Chairman, Dr Benjamin Omale.
He hailed the collaboration as “a decisive step in knowledge sharing and skills transfer that will directly enhance patient care.”
Dr Omale explained that the initiative will allow medical professionals from both institutions to access advanced training in complex surgical interventions. “We are not only training doctors; we are investing in a healthier future for Nigerians,” he said.
Officials confirmed the move will ease pressure on overstretched tertiary hospitals, while improving access to high-quality surgical care across underserved regions.
The partnership is also aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope in Health agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
BSUTH representatives described the deal as mutually beneficial. “Our doctors will gain from the depth of experience at NOH Enugu, while patients in Benue and beyond will benefit from improved treatment options,” they said.
Health analysts welcomed the initiative as a critical model of inter-hospital collaboration, urging government to encourage similar partnerships nationwide to expand access to specialised healthcare.
