Yobe Government Delivers Urgent Aid to 103 Flood Victims in Potiskum

YOBE, Nigeria- The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has intensified efforts to support communities devastated by flooding in Potiskum Local Government Area, with 103 displaced victims receiving hygiene and shelter kits.

Executive Secretary, YOSEMA, Dr Mohammed Goje, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that the agency has registered and validated 1,049 households, totalling 6,627 individuals, for flood relief in Potiskum.

“The ongoing interventions complement earlier support provided by the state, which included cash-for-rent assistance and non-food items for affected families,” Goje explained.

He praised Action Against Hunger (ACF) for its swift response and thanked other humanitarian partners for sustaining their commitment to the victims.

Goje urged beneficiaries to “make good use of the items to improve living conditions and restore dignity after the devastating flood.”

Community leaders welcomed the relief, describing it as timely. “This intervention gives us hope when we needed it the most,” one leader said.

In a related development, a woman found unconscious near the Potiskum river has received medical treatment and been reunited with her family, underscoring the human toll of the disaster.

The joint effort between YOSEMA and humanitarian agencies highlights a strong partnership in meeting urgent needs and building resilience among displaced households. Officials stressed that the agency remains committed to ensuring that affected communities recover and rebuild their lives.
