LAGOS, Nigeria – The Rotary Club of Lagos Central has reaffirmed its commitment to maternal and child health with the donation of critical medical equipment and supplies to the Sura Primary Health Centre (PHC) on Lagos Island.
The donations, which included delivery couches, neonatal resuscitation kits, baby kits, foodstuffs for 40 expectant mothers, thermometers, fetal dopplers, pulse oximeters, and maternity gowns, were made as part of Rotary International’s global service month for maternal and child health.
Speaking at the event, Club President, Elizabeth Ajilore, represented by past president Joseph Okunubi, explained that Rotary dedicates each month to a global concern. “In July, we focused on maternal and child health. In August, the emphasis is on membership. Each month is dedicated to an area of focus,” he said.
She added that the intervention followed a needs assessment with the health facility, which Rotary was able to meet by about 90 per cent, noting that the club has a longstanding relationship with the Sura community through education and health initiatives.
Ajilore further highlighted the club’s biannual family health programme at Sura Shopping Mall, which provides residents with free consultations, screenings, and treatments fully funded by Rotary members.
The Medical Officer of Health for Lagos Island East LCDA, Dr. Onose Adeleye, who represented the Executive Chairman, Hon. Muibi Folawiyo, commended Rotary for its consistency.
Adeleye assured that the equipment would be put to effective use and pledged continued collaboration.
