UN, UK Intensify Training for Nigerian Police Against IEDs

BORNO, Nigeria – International partners are strengthening Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, with the United Nations and the United Kingdom training police units in Borno State to counter improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The exercise, held at the Nigerian Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13 in Maiduguri, comes as insurgent groups persistently deploy IEDs against civilians and security forces.

In a statement, the UK mission in Nigeria confirmed its Defence Attaché visited the facility to observe progress and reaffirm Britain’s commitment. “Our collaboration with the United Nations and Nigerian security institutions reflects our shared determination to protect communities from the devastating impact of IEDs,” the mission said.

Borno Police Command praised the support, describing it as vital for improving response capacity. “We have made significant strides in countering explosive threats, and with international backing, our ability to protect lives is being further strengthened,” the command noted.
