ABUJA, Nigeria — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the sudden death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Nigeria’s Consul General in Buea, Republic of Cameroon.
Coker passed away on Saturday, August 16, following a brief illness, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
The ministry described him as “a hardworking and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism in different capacities.”
“His untimely death is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large,” the statement added.
Before his appointment to Buea, Ambassador Coker had represented Nigeria in various international postings, including missions in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, where he was widely respected for his professionalism.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Observers say his passing will be deeply felt in diplomatic circles, particularly in Cameroon where he played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations.
Ambassador Coker is remembered for his dedication to service, his calm diplomacy, and his firm commitment to Nigeria’s foreign policy goals.
