HARARE, Egypt – Egypt is set to expand cooperation with Zimbabwe, prioritising development, training, and media modernisation as part of a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral relations.
Speaking in Harare, the Egyptian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Salwa Mowafi, confirmed Cairo’s commitment during talks with Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere.
The discussions centred on enhancing collaboration across strategic fields, including healthcare, agriculture, tourism, housing development, and water purification.
“This cooperation is not only about information exchange but also about advancing political, economic, and technical partnerships that benefit both nations,” Mowafi stated.
Minister Muswere echoed the ambassador’s remarks, emphasising Zimbabwe’s readiness to deepen ties with Egypt, particularly in broadcasting and institutional modernisation.
“We also seek to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, housing, health, agriculture, tourism, and the modernisation of our public broadcasting institutions,” Muswere said.
Analysts note that both countries are aligning their cooperation with broader continental goals under the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which prioritises sustainable development and knowledge exchange.
The agreement underscores Egypt’s increasing role as a development partner in Southern Africa, while Zimbabwe sees the partnership as an opportunity to revitalise its media and public service sectors.
The talks highlight a mutual recognition of the need for regional collaboration to overcome socio-economic challenges. By focusing on broadcasting, healthcare, and agriculture, both countries aim to build resilience and promote inclusive growth across sectors.
