The Bauchi State Government has approved the harmonisation of salaries and allowances of medical doctors in the state civil service with the Federal Government scheme, in a bid to stem the migration of health workers to federal institutions.

Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, disclosed this on Thursday during the bi-annual media engagement with health reporters in Bauchi.

“The Governor directed that we should harmonise with the Federal Government’s condition of service for medical doctors, and we have done that since,” Mohammed said, noting Governor Bala Mohammed’s concern over the exodus of doctors.

He expressed optimism that “very soon, all those who left will come back because Bauchi is their home, and they will enjoy working here.”

According to him, the state has paid over ₦872 million in counterpart funding to support various health programmes, released more than ₦100 million as a matching grant for the Children’s Nutrition Fund, and met all commitments under its MoU with the Bill & Melinda Gates and Aliko Dangote Foundations.

Mohammed also cited gains in immunisation, nutrition, and maternal health, alongside plans to solarise all health facilities to ensure reliable power supply for service delivery.
