The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a 15-member special committee to assess and address malnutrition across the state, following a recent report by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) highlighting the severity of the crisis.

Speaking virtually at the inauguration on Wednesday, Governor Dikko Radda said the panel would review the MSF findings, identify the most affected areas, and recommend urgent measures, including the targeted distribution of grains from government reserves.

“I remember visiting one of the centres in July, and what I saw was deeply unpleasant to anyone with a heart,” Radda said. “We must act to ensure every child survives, receives education and healthcare, and enjoys the basic infrastructure for a better life.”

The Governor described the MSF report as a “wake-up call” and urged the committee to submit its findings promptly for immediate implementation.

Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal-Jobe stressed the administration’s commitment to eradicating malnutrition, saying “no community will be left behind.”

The committee, chaired by Dr. Ahmed Filin-Samji of the Zakat and Waqaf Board, has two weeks to submit its report.
