Jigawa to Renovate Over 200 Rural Health Facilities in Major Healthcare Upgrade

KANO, Nigeria – The Jigawa State Government has unveiled plans to refurbish more than 200 ward-level health facilities across rural communities in 2025, in a move aimed at transforming primary healthcare delivery.

Governor Umar Namadi’s administration, through the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SPHCDA), will oversee the upgrades, which will include new medical equipment, modern infrastructure, and climate-resilient designs to ensure year-round service in all locations, including hard-to-reach areas.

In a statement on Saturday, SPHCDA Executive Secretary Dr. Shehu Sambo said the upgraded facilities will feature solar-powered electricity, clean water systems, perimeter fencing, security posts, and fully equipped midwives’ quarters with satellite television.

Health experts predict the initiative will reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and improve access to emergency care in remote parts of the state. The upgrade is being hailed as a critical step toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Jigawa.
