Kaduna Set to Begin Mpox Vaccination in Affected LGAs

KANO, Nigeria – The Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Board has unveiled plans to launch a Mpox (monkeypox) vaccination campaign in selected Local Government Areas affected by the outbreak.

Health Educator at the Board, Isah Yusha’u, announced this during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting on Wednesday in Kaduna.

“The vaccination exercise is scheduled to begin tentatively on August 10 or 11 and will run for 10 days in the selected LGAs,” Yusha’u said. “A second round of vaccinations will follow four weeks later.”

He explained that the campaign targets high-risk groups, including laboratory personnel, immunocompromised individuals, and people with high-risk sexual behaviours. “This is a proactive step to contain the spread and protect public health,” he added.

Yusha’u also said traditional rulers, religious leaders, CSOs, and medical institutions would be mobilised to foster public trust and acceptance.

“We want to ensure accurate information reaches the public and that people take the vaccine in good faith,” he stated.

Also speaking, Abubakar Musa of Jama’atu Nasril Islam urged communities to support the campaign. “Religious leaders have a vital role in promoting health,” he said.
