The Katsina State Government has declared free medical treatment for all residents diagnosed with typhoid, as part of efforts to curb the disease’s spread and alleviate healthcare costs.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, said five hospitals have been designated to offer the services.
These include General Hospital Katsina, Turai Yar’Adua Hospital, Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital, General Hospital Jibia, and General Hospital Funtua.
Zango noted that the move aligns with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s broader public health strategy. “This initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on our people while improving access to quality healthcare,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, stressed the importance of early intervention.
“Our priority is to safeguard the health and well-being of our people. By providing free medical care for typhoid patients, we hope to encourage early treatment, reduce complications, and ultimately decrease the incidence of this preventable disease,” Funtua said.
The government urged residents to report symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, and weakness, and to adopt good hygiene practices, including hand washing and use of clean water, to prevent further spread.
