Ogun Assembly Tasks Health Ministry on Improved Healthcare Delivery

By Korede Abdullah

The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the State Ministry of Health and the Hospitals Management Board to intensify efforts toward delivering effective, accessible, and quality healthcare.

Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Wahab Haruna, made the call during the 2025 mid-year budget performance appraisal at the Assembly Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

“We commend the Ministry’s efforts so far, but we must continue to pursue service excellence and prudent fund management in line with our developmental goals,” Haruna stated.

Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye also lauded the ministry’s infrastructure drive under the ‘Impact Office’ initiative and urged increased funding to support its expanding responsibilities.

In her presentation, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, highlighted achievements including the upgrade of 75 primary healthcare centres in partnership with the World Bank, recruitment of 472 community health workers, and an additional 415 staff into the State Hospitals Management Board.

She noted that the ministry generated N99 million—43.64 per cent of its annual revenue target—mainly from the School of Nursing and hospital service fees.

These evaluations aim to ensure that public health institutions in Ogun State remain responsive, transparent, and adequately funded to meet the needs of residents.
