The Kano State Government will tomorrow, Saturday, July 26, 2025, launch a four-day integrated malaria prevention campaign targeting children under five across all 44 local government areas.

The campaign combines Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) with the mass distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs), aiming to protect millions of children during the peak malaria season from July to October.

“We are fully prepared to begin this year’s campaign,” said Kano’s SMC Coordinator, Babangida Musa Gwarzo. “Over 14 million doses of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (SP) will be administered monthly for four months. We recorded a 65 percent reduction in malaria cases among under-fives last year.”

“We will distribute more than seven million ITNs to households, replacing old, worn-out nets,” added Gwarzo. “This is part of a three-year routine intervention. Households should cooperate by submitting old nets for replacement.”

“This is about saving lives and easing the financial burden on families,” emphasised Gwarzo. “We urge caregivers, community leaders, and the media to support this effort.”

The initiative reflects Kano’s ongoing commitment to reducing child mortality and improving public health.
