The Kaduna State Government has vaccinated 754,304 girls aged nine to 14 against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), the leading cause of cervical cancer, as part of efforts to boost adolescent health in the state.
This was disclosed on Tuesday during the launch of the “Girl Effect Oya Campaign” at the Gusau Institute in Kaduna.
Deputy Governor, Hadiza Balarabe, represented by the Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Rabi Salisu, said the campaign targets both cervical cancer prevention and the fight against malnutrition among adolescent girls.
“This is not just about vaccines and nutrition; it is about our collective duty to protect and empower the next generation,” she said.
Balarabe praised health workers for their dedication, saying Kaduna had become a model for integrating adolescent health into routine immunisation.
She urged stakeholders, including parents and religious leaders, to support the campaign and dispel myths surrounding vaccines and nutrition.
