Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Radda, and 11 others are receiving medical treatment following a road accident along the Katsina-Daura Road on Sunday.
The incident, which occurred near the KTSTA Motor Park in Daura, involved a head-on collision between a Toyota SUV and a commercial Volkswagen station wagon.
According to eyewitnesses, the governor’s vehicle was not moving in a convoy when the accident happened.
“It was an attempted overtaking that went wrong,” one of the witnesses told journalists at the scene.
The Federal Road Safety Corps has yet to release an official statement, saying it is awaiting a comprehensive report from its Daura outpost.
A Good Samaritan involved in rescue efforts confirmed that all nine passengers in the commercial vehicle sustained injuries.
“We took them to the General Hospital, Daura, where they are being treated,” he said.
