Adamawa State has recorded a 40 per cent rise in new acceptors of family planning methods over the past year, according to The Challenge Initiative (TCI), a reproductive health-focused NGO.
TCI’s State Programme Manager, Mr. Godiya Yusuf, disclosed this on Saturday during a media roundtable on family planning held in Yola, the capital of Adamawa.
He said the surge followed a joint campaign with the Adamawa State Government aimed at improving access to services and tackling stigma.
“In 2022, we had 47,980 new acceptors and 19,024 modern contraceptive users. As of June 2024, that rose to 104,486 and 79,064 respectively,” Yusuf said.
Health Commissioner Felix Tangwami, represented by Zirra Bubanani, noted that child spacing improves maternal and child health.
Reproductive health advocate Aisha Garba said over 149,000 women now access modern contraceptives.
The state focal person, Tulhungu Uziel, urged women to use the 902 service points, noting that trained providers are countering myths and promoting healthier families.
