The Northwest Governors Forum has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday across the seven states of the region in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died Sunday in London.
In a statement signed by the Forum Chairman and Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, the governors described Buhari as “our father, our leader, and the pride of the Northwest.”
Radda said the decision was a unanimous resolution by the governors to honour the late statesman’s legacy of service, sacrifice, and integrity.
Buhari’s remains are expected to arrive in Katsina by noon Tuesday, with burial scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Daura.
The Forum extended condolences to President Tinubu, Buhari’s family, and Nigerians nationwide, urging prayers for his peaceful repose.
Buhari, a former military ruler and two-term civilian president (2015–2023), was renowned for his disciplined leadership and anti-corruption crusade, leaving a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s political landscape.
