Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Wednesday unveiled a state equity programme that will provide health insurance cover to over 38,000 vulnerable women and under-five children across the state.
Speaking during a high-level stakeholder meeting in Damaturu, Buni described the initiative as a critical step toward achieving universal health coverage in the state.
“This initiative is designed to ensure that no woman or child is left behind in accessing essential healthcare services,” the governor said. “It demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of our people.”
The event was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders, development partners, Ministry of Health officials, PHC Management Board members, and civil society organizations.
Buni highlighted key achievements in the health sector, including the establishment of 142 functional PHC centres, recruitment of over 2,000 healthcare personnel, and the provision of equipment and drugs.
He also commended the federal government and development partners such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Aliko Dangote Foundation, UNICEF, and WHO for their continued support.
“I urge our royal fathers and stakeholders to take ownership and address gaps in their communities to strengthen healthcare delivery,” Buni added.
